≫ WHAT WE BECOME: SURVIVOR STORIES APPLICATIONS ≪

  • Applications for What We Become: Survivor Stories are currently on hold while we work on creating our second wave of combat tests.

What We Become: Survivor Stories is a series of bite-sized scenarios meant to test our new and improved combat system in action! Our first wave contained 5 different scenarios, all taking place within the What We Become universe. Our second wave will contain 5 more scenarios. If you've been waiting to play on the server, now's your chance!

Additionally, each scenario has a limited number of slots for each role in the party, as well as an overall participation limit. If you apply for a role/scenario that is already full, you will be asked to apply for a different role/scenario. You can view the number of slots remaining for the current scenario on its respective forum post, linked above.

Make sure to check out our latest newsletter if you haven't yet! It has lots of information about our upcoming lore, among other things.

i. Status Effects

Status Effects

Status Effects

This is a complete list of all status effects a character can suffer from during combat scenarios.

For documentation of all actions a character may take during their turn, see TURN ACTIONS.

Ailment Status Effects

Acidic

You're being eaten alive.
  • The ACIDIC status effect inflicts damage worth 5HP for 5 turns.
  • While suffering from the ACIDIC status effect, recieve a -2 penalty on all rolls to hit.
  • The ACIDIC status effect cannot be cured.

Bound

Well, isn't that inconvenient.
  • The BOUND status effect has two variants: Lethal and Non-Lethal.
  • While suffering from the Lethal variant, all movement except the use of a gun is restricted and characters take damage worth 5HP each turn until freed.
  • While suffering from the Non-Lethal variant, all movement is restricted until the character is freed.
  • The BOUND status effect may be cured by successfully performing the Escape action.

Burning

You're burning alive.
  • The BURNING status effect inflicts incremental damage worth 10HP on the first turn and +10HP each turn thereafter until cured.
    • Example: On a character's second turn suffering from the BURNING status effect, they will take damage worth 20HP.

  • If a character becomes incapacitated while suffering from the BURNING status effect, they will die.
  • The BURNING status effect can be cured by successfully performing the Put Yourself Out action.

Concussed

You're seeing double.
  • The CONCUSSED status effect inflicts a -5 penalty on all rolls to hit for the duration of the combat scenario or event.
  • The CONCUSSED status effect cannot be cured.

Infection

You've contracted the virus.
  • The INFECTION status effect does not inflict any damage or penalties during the current combat scenario.
  • The INFECTION status effect cannot be cured; any character afflicted with the INFECTION status effect is guaranteed to die.

Mind-Controlled

You're surrounded by enemies.
  • The MIND-CONTROLLED status effect makes characters susceptible to their enemy's will and forces them to perform actions as instructed.
  • While suffering from the MIND-CONTROLLED status effect, players will temporarily lose all control of their character, excluding the character's dialogue.
  • Characters may attempt to cure themselves of the MIND-CONTROLLED status effect by rolling a contesting D20 die against their enemy.
    • For rolls HIGHER than the opposing die, characters successfully break free and are cured.
    • For rolls LOWER than the opposing die, characters remain afflicted.
  • If a character fails 2 consecutive rolls, they will only break free once the enemy has been defeated.

Poisoned

You're not feeling so good.
  • The POISONED status effect inflicts damage worth 5HP each turn until cured.
  • While suffering from the POISONED status effect, recieve a -1 penalty on all rolls to hit for the first turn, and an additional -1 each turn thereafter.
  • The POISONED status effect can be cured by using the following medical items, purchasable from certain traders and recoverable during events:
    • Purifinex Supplements

Stunned

You're seeing stars.
  • The STUNNED status effect prevents all actions on the first turn following its onset.
  • While suffering from the STUNNED status effect, after the first turn, recieve a -2 penalty on all rolls to hit for 1 turn.
  • The STUNNED status effect cannot be cured until it ends naturally.

Injury Status Effects

Who knew you had so much blood inside?
  • The BLEEDING status effect inflicts damage worth 10HP each turn until treated.
    • After 5 turns, if left untreated, characters recieve the BLOOD LOSS status effect.

  • While suffering from the BLOOD LOSS status effect, characters receive a -2 on all rolls to hit and enemies receive a +3 boost on all rolls to hit them.
    • Additionally, characters receive a decrease in their maximum number of available downs, from 3 to 2.

  • The BLOOD LOSS status effect cannot be treated.

Crippled

You're not feeling so fast anymore.
  • The CRIPPLED status effect restricts a character's ability to Sprint for the remainder of the combat scenario or event.
  • While suffering from the CRIPPLED status effect, enemies receive a +3 boost on all rolls to hit the suffering character.
  • The CRIPPLED status effect cannot be treated.

Fracture

That's not supposed to bend like that.
  • The FRACTURE status effect has two variants: Arm and Leg.

  • The Arm variant restricts characters to one-handed weapons and inflicts a -3 penalty on all rolls to hit.
    • If mitigated by a Splint Kit, weapon restrictions still apply but the penalty is reduced to -1 on all rolls to hit.

  • The Leg variant restricts a character's movement to 1 tile per AP and grants enemies a +3 boost on all rolls to hit them.
    • If mitigated by a Splint Kit, movement restrictions still apply but the boost is reduced to +1 on all rolls to hit them.

  • The FRACTURE status effect cannot be removed entirely, but may be mitigated by using the following medical items, purchasable from certain traders and recoverable during events:
    • Splint Kits

One's better than none.
  • The GOUGED EYE status effect inflicts a -3 penalty on all rolls to hit.
  • The GOUGED EYE status effect cannot be treated.

Heavy Wound

Isn't that supposed to be inside of you?
  • The HEAVY WOUND status effect inflicts a stackable -25 maximum HP.
  • While suffering from two or more HEAVY WOUNDS, characters are restricted to one-handed weapons for melee attacks and revolvers or pistols for ranged attacks, as well as a movement restriction of 1 tile per AP.
  • The HEAVY WOUND status effect can only be treated by using the following medical items, purchasable from certain traders and recoverable during events:
