Hello there, pardon me for not having this out sooner for you all! We’ve had a few folks ask us some questions about the lore lately and well now we’ve finally gotten on top of it! Haha! Better late than never!
The US Government
When the infection first popped up around the world the US government didn’t take immediate attention to it, providing the virus just enough time to spread exponentially across the mainland. When the seriousness of the situation finally became clear the government began a media blackout to prevent unrest and declared a state of emergency. Several states began declaring martial law before all news coverage was halted. Anyone working inside the government during the initial outbreak would know that the break down in communication within and between agencies was very sudden. Many government employees were either missing or refused to work any longer while the world was crumbling around them. Within the first week of the initial attacks, any sort of command structure was gone. The government was no longer capable of preventing mass desertion from the military and barely gripped onto power as chaos scorched the country. The sickness proved to be so utterly contagious and stoked so much fear into the population that it was too difficult to contain.
The US Military
The national guard was called in relatively early to help support law enforcement in riots. Though when infected numbers skyrocketed and flooded city streets, they easily swept aside any bewildered soldiers. No one was prepared to fire on seemingly innocent individuals or their fallen comrades. National guard forces routed several times as the undead continued to spread across the country and refused to be contained. As bases were overrun and losses were mounting, more and more soldiers deserted - believing the end had arrived. Many of those who remained loyal were cut off from supplies and any chain of command, scattered about in small pockets. By the end of the week, most of the military was in disarray.
Media
The first few attacks were documented over social media briefly before being taken down. Though video evidence continued to spread through dark sites like liveleak. As the sickness rampaged rapidly through the country the internet became the most reliable of sources for the truth. However, it provided mainly videos and little to no details on the actual cause of these violent mob attacks and cannibalistic tendencies. By the end of the first-week power was cut and cell service was non-existent and the internet was down.
Reminders
Hoarding is still against the rules, even with the map open. Please, make sure you familiarize yourself with our rules to be sure everything runs smoothly and everyone can have a good time.
