With the release of the IWBUMS build for animations just around the corner, we're beginning to think about how we're going to run the next lore. Don't worry about us ending the current lore, because we don't plan to start a new one any time soon. Whatever our next lore may be, it won't be starting until the stable animations build is released, at the very earliest. We are, however, beginning to draft out various lore ideas. That's where we need your help!

We have three main themes to choose between. You're welcome to submit your own, as well! We hope to create something engaging that everyone will be able to enjoy.

No matter which theme we go with, the next lore will be heavily story-based. Keep that in mind when submitting your own ideas.

And, without further ado, here are the themes!

---

DAY ZERO
A day zero lore would start before the outbreak has begun to spread. This is how the West Point and Cloverport lores were run. You would be able to form relationships and go about your daily lives while also experiencing the downfall of society, eventually leading into the apocalypse.

SIX YEARS IN
As the name suggests, this lore would take place six years into the apocalypse (possibly further?) This is similar to the Bartertown lore. You would be a very seasoned survivor. This opens up countless possibilities. Children could have grown up in the apocalypse, people would be unhinged, etc.

SUPERNATURAL
A possible Ashwood Cove 2? Something else? Who knows! A supernatural lore would contain no zombies and would instead be focused more on the players. It's something different, but it was incredibly well-received with the Ashwood Cove lore.

---

Let us know what you think! The results of this poll will help us immensely with shaping the next lore.

I think a lot of people feel bound to not do certain things in the beginning of say a day 1 Apocalypse. Personally speaking it really sucks to keep resetting this cycle. An argument with the anim's update is perhaps a large time skip for our current lore?

If we do Day Zero again we should have it themed, like have everyone be in a military base or a giant hospital or something.

Not really, we've always begun after the outbreak, not before, at least in the lores I've played in
Yup! As far as I know, only Cloverport and West Point have been Day Zero. Day Zero means before the virus has even begun to spread. Lores like What We Become and this current lore were Day One.

In spirit is about the same: your character is just some person that has a daily job, probably complains about minor stuff, and then shit happens.

Cold fear was technically supposed to be a day 0 lore. But alas things died before we could get to that point.

Ah yes time for the annual lore discussion page

I'd love for some of that Cthulu action to be going on. Something that's always separated us from everyone else out there, and what's kept me coming back for almost 5 years now, is that we haven't been afraid to try new things, and I've always felt that PZ works well as an RP platform that can branch out beyond just the sorta typical zombie apocalypse sandbox survive n loot kinda deal.

Thing is I understand how that kinda more slow-burned-Deep-Ones-Twin Peaksy-eldritch-mystery may not be for everyone cuz I'm sure a lot of people do prefer the more traditional lores and would find it sorta boring otherwise, but for me anyway as someone who's been around for a while now, I'd love to see an Ashwood Cove II type of lore as I really did enjoy what Cold Fear had going before it drifted off, and I unfortunatly missed Ashwood Cove itself but I keep hearing that it was one of the best, and that now it maybe could have a spiritual successor of sorts that can learn from some of the original's mistakes!

Ideas!
Ashwood Cove: the Reboot (90s lore)
Ashwood Cove: the Return (Modern day lore set after the events)
Ashwood Cove: the Prequel (70s/80s or earlier lore set before the events)* my fav

Personally I'd be down for some kind of supernatural lore if it fell along lines like SCP. I'm a bit meeh on demons and cults. I'm not majorly versed in that universe but something along those lines.

Edit: Or for those familiar with the game NEO Scavenger I'd love to see things like the dog men, Mellon heads, feral windegos, and eldritch horrors.

While I can't speak for everyone, I'm personally pretty tired of "Day Zero" lore starts. Very few people actually roleplay it as a legitimate day zero--too often too many people immediately go off with their formed groups and begin mass-looting the map with minimal fear or shock roleplay. The idea that society as a whole has suddenly fallen and that the dead are walking and eating people just doesn't seem to have as much of an impact as it should. I don't know why, but that's just the observation myself and several others have had time and time again.

I wouldn't mind a lore beginning some significant amount of time into the apocalypse. This opens up the door for wackier characters than we might see otherwise and it doesn't matter whether people properly """fear roleplay""" or not, either. It's also a benefit that it's familiar--that is, the admin team won't (shouldn't) struggle too much with putting it together and managing it properly.

The supernatural lore is the one I want the most, but I'll be honest: I have serious doubts that the admin team can pull it off as it stands right now. If Ashwood Cove is anything to go by, this type of lore takes a large dedication of both time and creativity, and even then it is likely to go horribly wrong in some manner or another. While I haven't played in the current lore so far, it doesn't take popping in game to see how stagnant activity has been both in game as well as outside it on the forums from both players and admins. I'm not saying the server has been dead by any means, I'm simply putting it out there that a supernatural-style'd lore without a consistently active playerbase and admin team won't hold any water and will fall through quick. If the admin team decides to roll with this lore type I'll be optimistic, but I hope that some serious changes are made to the way things have been going as of late.

I would also like to point out (as I've said in private already) that, assuming we do a new lore after the next build, pursuing one that specifically excludes zombie combat would be a huge mistake—considering that's a very significant part of the new update. I voted for the post-apocalyptic lore because I think it helps eschew the frustrations of the early outbreak while also allowing us to explore general people v. zombies content in a new, better iteration of the game.

All of that said, I really did love Ashwood Cove, and I would be so happy to revisit the concept... at some point. I don't know when the exact time for that is, but I don't think post-anims is it.

As an old time player from before it switched tfrom New Dawn, I feel like the six years or however long lore sounds like a good idea. I have to say that playing Marian in Bartertown was my favorite lore to play. (And surely she'll make a return if you guys decide to do one that far after Day 1 or further.) I personally would like to see something that is even further in the future, where those born before the apocalypse are rare to see not because of age but because of just how hard the land is after the outbreak. (Think around maybe 20 or 30 years.)

Yeah, not to go off topic from the whole lore suggestion bit but it is sorta surprising how the forums and all that have been rather slow as of late, seeing how the old ones always seemed to have stuff popping on them back in the day. It'd be nice to get some more activity going in general.

Yeah, I feel if we were to end up doing another post-apocalyptic lore set in the years following the whole initial outbreak, I'd rather do it way past it like 20 or 30 years, seeing how that's also something we haven't really tried before and probably opens stuff up a bit more, creatively speaking.

Personally, I'd rather something in between the timeframe of day 0 and six years in. I voted for six years in, though I'd probably have preferred a couple less years.

I would definitely rather hold up on a supernatural lore for the time being, given that we're only now going to be getting the newly animated zombies! It would be a big missed opportunity not to have zombies in the server when we know that there's going to be a wave of returning/new players to the game.

man who's voting for anything but supernatural
ashwood cove was easily the most interactive and exciting lore this server has ever done,

BUT
I personally think that it's major point of success was that there were enough active admins/event players to keep everyone reliably into it and involved
if we do do supernatural again i think that'd it'd be ideal if you guys kept that same high amount of event players to keep everyone involved with the lore, cause again, that's what makes a story-driven lore like ashwood shine and stand out
also what carver said about a lore set not in modern day would be rad
so much of the horror of horror in general feels downgraded when calling for help is so easy, and the world is only a few clicks/taps away

oh and no bunker again please
