Francine Ross - (TAKEN)
Francine had always marched to the beat of her own drum. As a devoted follower of the freewheeling hippie lifestyle, she embarked on a cross-country road trip with her friends from college. Francine believed their journey would be one of carefree adventure and life-changing experiences. However, from the beginning, their luck ran bad, with constant arguments and car troubles plaguing them. When their van finally broke down for good in rural Kentucky, it set in motion a chain of events that would test Francine's character in ways she couldn't have imagined. Stranded by her lover and alone, she was left with no choice but to put her faith in the first stranger who stopped to pick up a lone hitchhiker - a mild-mannered bank teller named Johnny Streiner offering her a ride.
Sheriff George McClelland - (TAKEN)
As the cynical career sheriff of Knox County for 15 years, the far-right 47-year-old George McClelland was known locally as much for his outlandish conspiracy theories as for keeping order. When rumors emerged of a mysterious train spill coinciding with black-ops government agents sweeping into town, McClelland saw it as proof that his wildest fears were coming true. Convinced darker forces were behind both the illnesses and the unprecedented lockdown that followed, the sheriff packed that night, fully believing escape was his patriotic duty before the "real agenda" was carried out. Racing at dusk to outrun what he was convinced was a cover-up in the making, McClelland abandoned his post without a second thought for the community now at the supposed mercy of those same forces. But having fled too late, the lawman found himself as trapped as those he left to their fate, concerned solely now with getting out alive.
Barbara O'Dea - (TAKEN)
Barbara O'Dea was an ambitious, up-and-coming young reporter at WHAS11 News in Kentucky, driven by both a desire for the truth and a need to prove herself in the male-dominated field of journalism. Facing constant discrimination and undermining of her abilities, her courage and nose for a story were earning her fame. She garnered a reputation as a relentless scavenger for stories, which was one of her greatest flaws: an unwavering dedication to getting the scoop at any cost, regardless of the risks—a trait that, during the strange events soon to unfold in her town, would lead both Barbara and her cameraman, Mitchell, into a fight for survival.
Helen Eastman - (TAKEN)
Helen Eastman seemed to have it all - a loving husband with a dream job at the local CasCo plant, a beautiful daughter, and a picture-perfect home in her small town. Yet, despite these blessings, Helen understood how fragile happiness could be. She still remembered her own difficult childhood living below the poverty line, and was determined to give her family the stable life she never had. Now, as strange illnesses began to afflict the town and her daughter turned sickly, all of Helen's hopes were at risk. With her husband never coming home from work, she gathered her little girl close and prepared to drive through the night to find help in the next town over. Helen wasn't about to let anything threaten the family and future she had worked so hard to achieve.
Johnny Streiner - (TAKEN)
Johnny Streiner is a man who values routine above all else. Every day is meticulously planned: he wakes at dawn, fixes breakfast while catching the morning news, then heads straight to his teller job at the local family bank - Foster and Streiner Savings. This trusted schedule is what has kept Johnny grounded for his whole 40 years, just as his late mother taught. But even rigid Johnny knows when it's important to unwind, like after a particularly taxing shift at work. That's when he'll make the drive to Frank's 24-hour diner just over in the next town—not for the occasionally unsavory customers, but for a hot cup of coffee and a slice of cherry pie, the best to be found for miles. So, on one fateful evening after an especially harrowing day, compassion got the better of routine when Johnny stumbled upon Francine Ross stranded and fearful on the roadside. Offering the mysterious young woman a ride seemed the right thing to do, though Johnny gets the creeping sense he's missed signs of deeper trouble brewing.
Peter Foree - (TAKEN)
Peter was a lineman for the local utility company, working the late shift to fix transformers and downed power lines. At 43, he had been on the job for over 20 years. Though tired after a long night restoring power after a storm, he stopped at the 24-hour diner on the edge of town for a cup of coffee and some food before heading home to sleep. Little did he know that the short rest stop would change his life forever, thrusting him into a nightmare beyond anything he could have ever imagined.
