≫ WHAT WE BECOME: SURVIVOR STORIES APPLICATIONS ≪

  • Applications for What We Become: Survivor Stories are currently on hold while we work on creating our second wave of combat tests.

What We Become: Survivor Stories is a series of bite-sized scenarios meant to test our new and improved combat system in action! Our first wave contained 5 different scenarios, all taking place within the What We Become universe. Our second wave will contain 5 more scenarios. If you've been waiting to play on the server, now's your chance!

Additionally, each scenario has a limited number of slots for each role in the party, as well as an overall participation limit. If you apply for a role/scenario that is already full, you will be asked to apply for a different role/scenario. You can view the number of slots remaining for the current scenario on its respective forum post, linked above.

Make sure to check out our latest newsletter if you haven't yet! It has lots of information about our upcoming lore, among other things.

INTRODUCTION

Evening, folks! Some of you know me, some of you don’t. I’m MindGate or Tyler, you can call me by whichever you wish. I’ve been a long-time veteran New Dawner and involved in the lore scene for the past couple of years until I had to peace out late last year for some IRL troubles. I decided to come back around and see what I could do to help out the server in its current state, and as it turns out, I’m now going to be behind the creative direction of the upcoming lore. I’m very excited to be working with the community again and deeply appreciate Bezz’s interest in having me return to my former position. But enough about me, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what I’m sure you actually clicked on this for.

WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THE SERVER?

We are currently in that sweet, sweet spot - the middle-ground before a massive update that should change the way roleplay is done going forward. I’m happy to tell you we’re currently in the midst of preparing for just that! I’ve started work on a base idea for the next lore, and am currently working on what systems we’ll be using in the upcoming lore to make the experience better. Our goal is to make this as player-friendly and accessible as possible going forward and with that being said …

PLAYER SUGGESTIONS

I am currently taking suggestions! I can’t promise all of them will be utilized, obviously, but feel free to drop some feedback on what you’d like to see on well anything! It can be about events, event time schedules, themes in the lore, what sort of structure you’d personally like to see. I want you all to have your hands in creating this lore to some degree, so feel free to make your stuff as in-depth as you want!

THE LORE

I am not at liberty to reveal much just yet, I’d be lying if I said we weren’t in the earlier stages of lore production at the moment. I, however, will give you a taste of what we’re going for. This lore will be based in the fashion of Romero stories with some of our own unique spins on the tropes/genre. This does mean we will not be including things like the special infected from previous lores, and will instead be focusing primarily on the standard zombie as the primary ambient enemy. I’m also happy to report that the ’80s and West Point were the winners of our polls! So, our lore will be set in that frame of time, and in that location.

PLAYER Q&A

Do you have any questions? Feel free to ask them! I’ll try to get back to you all as soon as I can with answers if I can give them.

IN CLOSING

We’re hard at work with the production of the next lore, and all are immensely excited about the prospects that the new animation build will bring to the future of the community. These are exciting times for us, and everyone involved with Project Zomboid at large! I can promise I’ll have more to tease regarding the main lore in the next post, but for now, have a nice day!

straight into the apocalypse or a monthish of non-apocalypse before ala ashwood
We haven't decided on this yet, I would be completely open of non-apocalypse roleplay in some form whether it be on the server at launch, or before animations drop via Discord. It depends on community interest! If you all wanna see some pre-outbreak stuff, let me hear it.

I definitely want to see something pre-outbreak!! This could work great as a Day Zero lore, similar to the WP lore from 2016. Animations in a multiplayer setting will be fresh for nearly everyone, and starting off before the initial outbreak gives everyone time to get used to things. Sure, you don't get to go ham fighting zombies right off the bat, but I really think it'd work well. I know I'd enjoy it.

Will character applications be changed up any or we sticking with what we currently have?
We are most likely sticking with what we have right now with the exception of some minor changes, such as replacing the "flight class" question with stuff involving groups, and whether or not you want to opt into the randomizer. If we have any changes, it'll lean on whether or not we do a pre-outbreak lore, and even then they would be mild.

i would also very much like to do a little pre-apoc. doesn't have to be a ton, maybe a single week? but yeah, getting back into the game, it's gonna be new and different and crazy, and it'll be nice to get used to RPing in it before we have to start worrying about zambois.

How do you think the animation update will affect/change how people will play in contrast to last lores? Like, one can visibly tell if someone is crouching or such. Will they have to emote that like "X kneels down to a crouch and begins sneaking towards the fence" or such before they engage in that action?

Do you think that the heightened danger zombies now pose + the slower actions of the player character will bring about a more natural feel towards "fear rp" that may not have been as prevalent in prior lores?

can i be weapons consultant lol?

I think people will actually have to think about what they are doing. Of course, when you're being shot at and crouch down behind something, less shots are likely to hit. So gunfights will be 100% more intense than ever before in my opinion. People should have already been emoting when they crouch and everything but if it's more visible, I expect no less either way. So yes. They'd have to emote regardless.

With the new danger added to zombies (let's only use shamblers in this conversation) I think there is a lot more potential with fear RP. The natural feel for this RP type as well as the new way to play will definitely feel natural to most every player. Honestly, it takes a longer while to get used to playing with these new mechanics so I also foresee a whole lot less mech gaming and even hybrid/mechanical combat.

Everything will take more thought and no one can just go in Rambo style anymore because they will surely die.

As for being a weapons consultant, I'm not sure what that really means but if you want to write up a guide about most common weapons and ammo types and all that, I am not stopping you.
